This is a native white pine, Pinus strobus ’Hillside Winter Gold’, that looks unexceptional 8 months out of the year. But once the cool weather begins the needles turn a buff-orange on the way to a true golden-yellow by winter. It is rare when a winter visitor to the nursery doesn’t ask about the pair we have planted near the parking. We planted them too close together so they are stuck in a winter tango that delights us on the dreariest day. These are grafts, two years old. Likes full sun and decent soil.
