Bowles Mauve Wallflower - trade gallon
Bowles Mauve Wallflower - trade gallon

This is a perennial that looks like a small shrub since the stems are woody. Makes a mound to about 3 feet & is happiest in a rock garden or extremely well-drained soil in a sunny site. Actually prefers poor soil to rich & is happier with the addition of some lime. Often planted in the south in the fall, overwinters, & flowers in the spring. Erysimum ’Bowles’ Mauve’ declines in the heat of summer & "should not be expected to persist more than two years." (Dr. Armitage) Think "pansies" only taller and I think prettier. Zones 7 - 8.

Athyrium niponicum var. pictum is a wonderful addition to a shady, moist spot in your garden. The tricolored fronds make it one of the most popular ferns in American gardens. As the common name makes clear, it is native to Japan. Be careful not to plant in too much sun which will wash out the color. Where happy it will spread. Deciduous with height of 1 to 2 feet. It is easy to grow in Zones 4 - 9.
